Though we’re almost through the first month of the regular season, nine baseball teams remain undefeated:

Westfield, Pittsfield, West Springfield, Pioneer Valley, Drury, Pathfinder Tech, Ware, Franklin Tech, and Smith Voc.

The top-seeded Bombers have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 34-18 during their opening six-game winning streak. Two of those games, however, were one-run wins against Springfield Central and Minnechaug.

  • St. Mary’s baseball nudges Westfield Technical Academy 1-0 in rivalry game

Joshua Wagner (team-high 18), Jackson LaValley (14), and newcomer Anthony Roberts (11) have led Westfield’s pitching staff with 43 combined strikeouts and counting.

The Generals, meanwhile, are close behind with five consecutive wins to begin the spring. During that stretch, Pittsfield has outscored its opponents by 65 runs to remain competitive against Westfield and West Springfield in the Valley West Standings.

Pittsfield’s offense is well-rounded, as David Wildgoose (team-high 11) and Camden Zerbato (10) have driven in a combined 21 runs through five games.

Meanwhile, Jason Codey (team-high 22) and Matthew Burega (14) have recorded 36 combined strikeouts on the mound. The duo has only allowed three earned runs in 19 combined innings pitched.

However, things won’t get easier as Pittsfield is scheduled to compete against Northampton, West Springfield, Westfield, Taconic, Wahconah, Pope Francis, and Belchertown to complete the month.

Four of those seven games are on the road.

The Indians are another team on an impressive stretch, as they’ve defeated Granby, South Hadley, and Frontier to maintain first place over Monson in the Suburban Central Standings.

Ware has outscored its opponents 25-1 during that stretch.

Brady Guimond currently leads the Indians’ pitching staff with nine strikeouts over six innings, while Trevor Millet has driven in four runs thus far.

Three new teams joined this week’s rankings: Agawam, Wahconah, and Smith Voc. And for sound reasoning, as the Brownies have responded from its opening two-game losing streak (Westfield and Longmeadow) by having earned wins in three of their last four games.

  • WMass Baseball Roundup: Aiden Lavelle leads Agawam over Hopkins Academy

Those outcomes were against East Longmeadow, Holyoke, and Hopkins by a combined score of 29-11 to maintain first place in Valley Central Standings over Belchertown.

Agawam will now travel to face an impressive Taconic squad, who has won three consecutive games, on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Warriors (21-0) and Vikings (56-3) have outscored their opponents by 74 runs during their last six combined wins to maintain control in the Suburban East and Tri-County North Standings, respectively.

  • WMass Baseball Stats Leaders: Drury’s Carson Rylander strikes out 10

Kaleb Jorritsma has paced Smith Vocational’s offense with a team-high six hits, eight RBIs, three doubles, and one triple, while James Lavallee is next with five runs scored and six RBIs.

There are multiple games to remember this week. Multiple undefeated teams, Franklin Tech and Drury, will compete against each other in North Adams on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Pioneer Valley will look to earn its seventh consecutive win as they visit Hopkins on the same scheduled date and time.

Two more of the region’s premier teams will battle against each other in Springfield as Pope Francis looks to snap its three-game losing streak against Westfield and serve the Bombers their first season loss on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Greenfield and Frontier will conclude the weekend in South Deerfield. These two Franklin-County rivals are scheduled to compete for the sixth time in three years on Saturday at noon. The Red Hawks have won four of the last five meetings.
