Get ready for a shake-up on your afternoon radio dial in West Lafayette, Indiana! WLQQ "Q106.7," the station known for its Adult Contemporary tunes and part of the Woof Boom Radio family, is switching things up. Afternoons just got a whole new voice, and it's time to say hello to Julie Koehrer! But here's where it gets interesting...
Julie Koehrer is stepping into the afternoon slot, taking the reins from Gina Quattrocchi. Gina, a familiar voice to WLQQ listeners, had been holding down the afternoon show since February 2018. Before that, she spent an impressive two decades as a reporter and anchor at WLFI-TV. That's a serious commitment to local news! Gina officially signed off on Friday, signaling the start of what she described as "a new chapter in her life." We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Now, you might be thinking, "Who is this Julie Koehrer, and where did she come from?" Well, she's no stranger to WLQQ, having joined the station in July 2024 as an Account Executive. But this isn't her first rodeo in the radio world. In fact, Julie brings a wealth of experience from behind the mic and in programming roles. And this is the part most people miss...she's not just someone who decided to try radio on a whim. Think of it as a seasoned pro returning to her roots!
Before joining WLQQ, Julie spent a significant portion of her career on-air and steering the ship in programming. She boasts an impressive resume that includes time as the Assistant Program Director (APD) and morning show host at Saga's AAA station, "106.1 The Corner" WCNR, and as a midday host at Classic Rock "97.5 3WV" WWWV, both located in Charlottesville, Virginia. She's also held the position of APD and midday host at "101.5 Bob Rocks" WBHB in Hagerstown, Maryland. That's a lot of experience covering a wide range of formats! To add even more breadth to her experience, Julie has also graced the airwaves at WVOD in Nags Head, North Carolina, KZZK in Quincy, Illinois, and KFMW in Waterloo, Iowa. Talk about a well-traveled radio personality!
So, what does this change mean for listeners? Will Julie bring a different vibe to the afternoon show? Will she stick to the classic WLQQ format, or will she introduce some new elements? This is a moment that might spark differing opinions within the listening community, and only time will tell. What do you think about this change? Are you excited to hear Julie Koehrer on WLQQ afternoons? Do you think her experience in various formats will bring a fresh perspective to the station? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
